Betty Hennigan

Mrs. Betty Law Hennigan was born August 16, 1937, in Florence, South Carolina to the late Joseph Law Sr. and Curley Taylor Law. She departed this life on November 21, 2021, to enter into her final resting place.

Mrs. Betty Law Hennigan received her high school education in Florence County; a 1954 graduate of Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina where she was instrumental in pioneering the Wilson High School Alumni Association. Mrs. Betty Law Hennigan received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Paine College in Augusta, Georgia and later received her Master of Education in Mathematics from Francis Marion College in Florence, South Carolina. Mrs. Betty Law Hennigan was a life-long educator. She began her 33-year teaching career at Johnson Middle School in Timmonsville, South Carolina and later transferred to Timmonsville High School. Her teaching career started and ended with her 2nd Family, Florence School District Four. She was an exceptional educator, a member of the National Education Association and was loved by all of her students. She was an excellent storyteller and public speaker, incorporating jokes into her storytelling just to make people laugh. She was known as the “life of the party” to all who were graced by her presence. Betty was also a prolific writer, creating original introductions and expressions when asked to speak.

Mrs. Betty Law Hennigan was among the first Inductees into the Wilson High School Hall of Fame. She came out of retirement to join the Florence School District One Alternative School Faculty, and was also a part-time employee of Pee Dee Express Tax Service and a member of the Gospel and Chancel Choirs of Trinity Baptist Church. She was outstanding member in the church and community and the Matriarch of the Law Family!

At an early age, Mrs. Betty Law Hennigan accepted Christ as her Lord and personal Savior and joined Trinity Baptist Church. She loved to sing, but was ecstatic to hear her nephew, Rev. Terry Law, sing, play the piano and preach the word of God.

Mrs. Betty Law was joined in holy matrimony to the late Monroe Hennigan on January 13, 1962, and to this union, a loving devoted son, Donzell D. Hennigan, was born; the sole caregiver of Mrs. Betty Law Hennigan until her demise.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Betty Law Hennigan was preceded in death by two brothers: Walter Law and Joseph Law Jr. and two sisters: Deloris Ann Law Reyes and Jacqueline Law James.

Her loving memories will remain cherished by her son, Donzell D. Hennigan and nephew (raised as her son), Tyrone Law (both of Florence, SC.); sister-in-law, Shirley Law (Florence, SC), brothers-in-law, Joseph Reyes and Samuel James (Columbia, SC), Chester Hennigan, Rudolph (Roseann) Hennigan and Kenneth Hennigan (all of Florence, SC.); a special sister, Deloris Wilson Cannon (Florence, SC) and Goddaughter, Sarah Hamlin. Four grandchildren: Brandon Scott (Alexandria, VA), Donzell Hennigan (Atlanta, GA), Dominic Wilson (Florence, SC) and Aalliyah Grogan (Roswell, GA). Blessed with additional grandchildren: LaMontae, Shaina, Kristine, Kenneth, Chernako, Rahneik, and Londyn Ski.: eight great grands, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Please keep the family of Betty Law Hennigan in your thoughts and prayers.

Deepest sympathy to the family during this difficult time. She was my former co-worker during my years at THS. She was a good teacher and a good person. May God continue to give you comfort & strength.

Ms. Betty was a joy to be around. She would always get me to serve as a judge for her awesome talent shows at Timmonsville. I remember the great times. Continue Blessings to the family

I will miss you Betty. I remembered the good days when you were teaching in Timmonsville. This were my hometown and you was really serious. Your son was a blessing to you because he was so faithful loving his mom Donzell.
