Charles Ivory, Sr.

Mr. Charles Ivory Sr. “Boogie” was born August 10, 1939 in Florence South Carolina to the late Nelson Charles Ivory Jr. and Rosa Bell (Barr) Ivory. Charles was affectionately known as “Boogie” to family and friends. He departed his earthly life and began his eternal life on Saturday August 31, 2024 at McLeod Hospice House of Florence SC.

Charles was baptized in the name of Jesus and was a full member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church until his health declined. He attended and graduated from Wilson High School. After graduating he served in the United States Air Force for four years and was honorably discharged. After his service for the country, he began his career at CSX Railroad as the Head Chef for many years until his retirement. During those years, he served in his church as Lay Leader to the United Methodist Charge Conference, he was a member of the Mt. Zion Rosenwald School that is now recognized in the National Registry of Historic Places, Mt. Zion United Methodist Men, a trustee of the church, the President of the Mt. Zion Senior Choir, he was the Vice-President of the Mars Bluff Male Chorus, and he was a Bible Scholar and served as the Adult Sunday School Teacher which he enjoyed deeply. He had a passion for God and his church. 

Charles loved all sports of all seasons and enjoyed watching them weekly. His favorite NFL team was the Redskins that is now known as The Washington Commanders. He loved watching Westerns. He loved to share memories of his life with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, one of which was time playing the Alto Saxophone where he used to make his reeds from a sugar cane. He had such a natural love for his grandchildren, great-grands, and the children of the family. He took pride in educating his family on their family history and where they came from. 

Charles is proceeded in death by his wife the Late Creola McNeil Ivory, his parents, two brothers Sgt. Major Ernest Ivory of United States Army and Walter Ivory and one sister Mary E. Graves. 

He leaves to cherish all of these memories his children Charlena (Lamar) Grant, Teresa Ivory, Charles (Lisa) Ivory Jr. all of Florence SC, Faith Monette Samuel of Timmonsville SC, Sherell (Tamerio) Epps of Fayetteville, NC and Charles Nelson (Malisha) Moses of Savannah, GA. Three sisters Sarah Ivory “Sug-Gal” as he called her of East Orange, New Jersey, Cora Redding of Columbus, Georgia and his baby sis “Lassie” as he called her Rosa (Anthony) Smith of Florence South Carolina. Two Brothers Harrison Ivory Jr. and Nathaniel Ivory both of Marion, South Carolina. Three sister in-laws Geneva Ivory, Marjoree Garland and Juanita (Nathaniel) Joe all of Florence, SC and one brother in-law James (Nancy) Goodson of Florence, SC. Three special granddaughters LaMarrea (Terrell) Snow, Charnelle (Aaron) Young, and Shirvonn (Thomas) Blackmon all of Florence, SC, one special grandson Donzell Hennigan of Atlanta, GA , a very special niece Jessica (James) Smith Robinson of Florence, SC a special friend Moses Coker of Florence South Carolina and a long time caregiver Lakeisha Capers of Florence, SC. Number of grandchildren and number of great-grand children with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
