The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC carefully considered this recommendation and ask that additional guest please participate via live-streaming if it is authorized by the family.

Graveside Service for Brother Christopher James will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Greater Gethsemane Gardens of Rest, 2328 Pocket Road, Darlington, South Carolina 29532. Interment will follow, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Brother Christopher Jerome James was born in Brooklyn New York on January 16, 1967 to the late Deacon Houston D. James, Sr. and Mother Elizabeth James. On Sunday God sent an angel to pick a flower from the garden. Brother Christopher Jerome James departed this life on November 15, 2020 in Florence South Carolina at the home after a brief illness.

He received his education from Eastern District High School in Brooklyn, New York. He was employed as a laborer in New York and was a custodian for a private cleaning service in Florence, South Carolina. Christopher was a talented artist and was a comic connoisseur who took pride in his various comics. He loved teaching his nieces and nephews how to draw.

Christopher was baptized in Jesus name at an early age. He was a member of Greater Gethsemane Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ where he served on the Security Team, and the Cleanup Committee. Brother Christopher loved his family and Church family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Houston James, Sr.; and two brothers, Houston James Jr. and Nathan Marvin James.

Christopher leaves to cherish his memories: a loving mother, Mother Elizabeth James of Florence, South Carolina; two sisters, Debora C. Williams and Kimberly James both of Florence South Carolina; three brothers, Stephen James of San Antonio, Texas, Michael (Shalay) James, and Curtis (Mia) James both of Florence South Carolina; two aunts, Emma Reed of Mullins, South Carolina and Dinah Vance of Tuscaloosa Alabama; one uncle, Floyd (Dean) Blakney; five special friends, Deacon William Alford, Deacon Entran Mack Sr., Deacon Jimmie Hart, Deacon Walter Gibson and Brother Larry Paige Sr; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
