Mr. David James, affectionately known as “Kang David III,” was born on April 8, 1957, in Bennettsville, South Carolina, to the late Thomas James and Florence James. He peacefully transitioned from this life on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
David received his education at Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina.
Throughout his life, he was known as a devoted friend and a hard worker. He dedicated many years of service at Carolina Doric before relocating to North Carolina, where he continued his career working at a newspaper plant.
In his leisure time, David enjoyed fishing and playing pool-two of his favorite pastimes that brought him great joy and camaraderie.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife, Michelle Scott; one sister, Deloris Johnson of Florence, South Carolina; two nephews, Franklin James and Jerome James, both of Florence, South Carolina; three nieces, Patricia (George) Johnson, Kelly James, and Nicole James, all of Florence, South Carolina. He is also survived by great-nieces Monesha Johnson, Celena Jackson, Shaneka Johnson, Britney Echols, Tonique Cooper, Aaliyah Myers, Davia James, Camillie White, and Nivea, great- nephews: Leroy Johnson Jr., Jowan Felder, Joquan Felder, Keldecious McDonald, Shiterrius McDonald, Shaheid James, Josiah Funkhouser, all of Florence, South Carolina. David’s memory will also be fondly remembered by his special friends Leo Greg, Tonya Stanley, Marva Law, all of Florence, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Thomas and Florence James, and one great-nephew, Jaquaz Cooper.
David will be remembered for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and the joy he brought to those who knew him. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure-he was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
