Georgie M. Robinson

July 17, 1938 — June 16, 2025

On July 17, 1938, God spoke, and a beautiful and bright light was illuminated in the union of Elma Lee and David McWhite in the person of their firstborn child, Georgie Lee McWhite. Better known as Gee, she was a quiet spirit with an effervescent smile. Georgie was a very dependable young lady and helped her mother in taking care of many household duties. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at the Aim Well Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J. L. Brooks.

She was an excellent student and excelled in Math, English, and Home Economics during her matriculation through the public school system of Florence County where she earned her high school diploma. It was during those years at the never forgotten Gibbs High and Elementary School that Georgie met the love of her life; the smooth talking, curly-haired, Calvin E. Robinson. The two became one and made the Mill Branch community their home where they raised three children while running a small farm in addition to working their full-time jobs. It was at that time that she joined Mill Branch AME Church in order that her family could worship as one. Later in life, she and her husband, Calvin Sr., joined Trinity Baptist Church under the leadership of their son, Dr. Calvin Robinson, Jr.

Georgie worked as a seamstress for most of her life and worked hard to become outstanding at her craft. She made a great deal of the clothes that her daughters wore to include one-of-a-kind wedding dresses for each of them. Her skills were well known and, as a result, she was sought after to make outfits and repairs for prom dresses, wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses and even a suit each for her husband and son.

Georgie was a fantastic cook who learned well from her mother Elma Lee and her mother in love, Allean. Her fried chicken, biscuits, T-bone steaks, and cakes were legendary.

When her husband, Calvin, started a small trucking company, a CPA gave Georgie a 15-minute tutorial in bookkeeping, and due to her astute business acuity, she did an outstanding job in keeping a meticulous ledger. Later in life, Georgie earned her CNA certification and began working for the Pee Dee Disability Center.

Georgie a woman truly straight out of Proverbs Chapter 31 will be remembered as a devoted wife, and a mother who would go to the limits to support her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Before 3K was in vogue she home schooled her children and checked their homework when they were little. She played with her children, taught them nursery rhymes and other games and taught them to always support one another. No matter how tired she was after a hard day’s work, she would prepare a full meal for her family, and her house was spotless before she went to bed.

Georgie was a demure and delicate spirit with a love as expansive as the universe. She was as soft as a flower petal, yet she was a strict disciplinarian. Daddy laid down the law, but Momma served as the judge, the jury, and the punishment. Her vows of marriage and motherhood came second only to her devotion to God. She taught her children to pray, to worship, and to live their lives for Christ.

During the early morning hours on Monday June 16, 2025, God spoke, and the beautiful and brilliant supernova named Georgie, illuminated for one last bright glow and slowly dimmed on this side but radiated even brighter in Heaven with our Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, her sisters, Dixie, and Diane, a grandson, Bennie Greene, Jr., and her great-granddaughter, Emryn Blessing Troupe. In addition, family members in-love, Allean and Boria Robinson, Roosevelt Robinson, Mildred McElveen, Harry Robinson, and Jerry Robinson.

She leaves to mourn but not as those who have no hope—her children, Kathy Robinson, Dr. Shirley Robinson, Rev. Dr. Calvin Robinson, Jr. (Ann), grandchildren, Quincy Greene (Sophear), Avril Troupe (Demetrius), Angel Troupe (Delanore), Calvin Robinson III (Brianna), great grandchildren, Kiros, Khari, and Demetrius Troupe II, Calvin Robinson, IV, and Delanore Troupe III. Also, she leaves her siblings Jimmy McWhite (Rosa), Arthur McWhite (Annel), Sammy McWhite (Katie), and David McWhite Jr., two sisters in-love, Gracie Porter (James) and Betty Wilson, in addition to a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Please keep the family of Georgie Lee McWhite Robinson in your thoughts and prayers.
