Mr. Handy Gause, son of the late Charlie and Arqulia Gause, was born in Britton’s Neck, South Carolina.
Handy received his education from Britton’s Neck School, a division of Marion County School System.
Handy parents were farmers, and he left the farm for a better life. However, he was drafted into the Military in 1951.
Handy had an exceptional career. He retired with thirty-three years of service from the United States Government. Those thirty-three years consist of him working twenty-eight years for the United States Mint in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and two years in the Marine Corps, prior to that, he worked for two years at the Shipyard. Handy also worked two jobs, part-time at the United States Post Office and the Veterans Affairs Hospital.
Handy had a goal to own his own home before he got married and he did. He married Mrs. Martha, and they were blessed with four children. Handy still owns four houses in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Handy and Martha were true Missionary Workers. They visited the sick and shut-in every week at McLeod Regional Medical Center, McLeod Rehabilitation, and McLeod Hospice House. They were very active in their church and community.
Handy was a wealth of information regarding the Gause Family and First Bethel Church which was built in 1879. If you wanted firsthand information regarding the history of The Gause Family, you could always ask Handy Gause.
