Harold DeLafayette Jones was born November 23, 1938, in Florence, South Carolina. He was called to his heavenly home in the early morning of December 5, 2023. Harold was lovingly known as Daddy, Grandaddy, Pamp, Spooky, Bubba and the Mayor of Gaillard Street to his friends and family.
Harold was the son of the late Willie and Mamie Jones. Harold graduated from high school in New York City. He was later joined in Holy Matrimony to Corrine Eaddy Jones in February 1959. To that union, four daughters were born. He was preceded in death by Corrine and daughter, Carolyn Jones Belin.
Harold left New York in 1969 and moved to Pamplico, South Carolina and joined Pee Dee Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee. Harold worked for Union Carbide, later known as ESAB, until his retirement.
Harold leaves to cherish his life and memories: three daughters, Sharon Jones-Lake (Robert), Cynthia Jones Hugee (Wendon) both of Florence, South Carolina and Crystal M. Jones of Mint Hill, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Staff Sergeant Jarrod D. Jones of Honolulu, Hawaii, Tiffany Jones of Florence, South Carolina, Sargeant First Class Justin D. Jones currently in Kuwait, and Second-Class Petty Officer Wendon Shaquille Jones of Chesapeake, Virginia; seven great-grandchildren, Nahla Jones, Lashia Jones, Jaylah Jones, Joshua Jones, Carter Ransom, Jordan Jones and Braelyn Jones; one brother, Lenward Elliott of Atlanta, Georgia; and one sister, Betty Williamson of Washington, District of Columbia.
Besides his children and grandchildren, Harold leaves a few other special people in his life: His niece, raised as his daughter, Cathy Eaddy Hunter; first cousins, Johnnie Elliott, Shelia Taliferro, Lucille Johnson, Luvenia Wilson, Edward “E.J.” McIver and Katie Miles. Other special people in his life were Ronlena McClester, Norman Townsend, Champ Scipio, Tyrone Rainey and George Mack; and a very special friend, Christal Shaw. He also leaves a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Harold made everyone he was around feel warm and happy. He was always a joy to be around, the life of all family gatherings and left you smiling and reminiscing about your time together once he was gone. Harold will forever be missed and loved!
Please keep the family of Harold D. Jones in your thoughts and prayers.
