Funeral service for Mr. Herbert Kennedy will be conducted 12 Noon Thursday, December 5, 2019 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 S. Johns St., Florence. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC. Mr. Herbert Kennedy, the son of Dorothy Gilbert Kennedy and the late James S. Kennedy was born on April 19, 1962, in Florence, South Carolina. On Friday, November 29, 2019, he departed this life at McLeod Regional Medical Center, after an illness. He attended the Public Schools of Florence County and was employed as a Brick Mason until his demise. Herbert was a person who was always happy and fun loving. He loved helping others and he will be missed dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, James S. Kennedy; three brothers, Elijah Kennedy, Lawrence Kennedy, and Vernell Kennedy; two sisters, Dorothy Mae Kennedy and Louise Muldrow; paternal grandparents, Leroy and Mattie Kennedy; and maternal grandparents, Chalmus Stater and Carrie Gilbert. Left to cherish fond memories are: one daughter, Gabrielle Hyman of Florence, South Carolina; one granddaughter, Kalryah Hyman of Florence, South Carolina; his beloved mother, Dorothy Gilbert Kennedy; three brothers, Oral Kennedy, David Kennedy, and Jerry Pompey; five sisters, Jeanette Kennedy, Elizabeth Kennedy, Mary Alice Rush, Celestine Kennedy, and Marie Hicks all of Florence, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Kennedy of Timmonsville, South Carolina; one aunt, Hallie Wright of Baltimore Maryland; a special sister, Pandora Hardy of Florence, South Carolina; a host of nephews; nieces; cousins; other relatives; and friends.
