Obituary

God, in His infinite wisdom and perfect love, planted Ida among us as a precious rose, blooming beautifully as a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. In His divine timing, He gently gathered His rose back into His heavenly garden. Though our hearts feel the absence, we find peace in knowing that her life was full, her labor was complete, and her spirit was ready to rest in Him. Let us not dwell in sorrow, but instead rejoice in the fragrance of love she leaves behind and the eternal life she now embraces.

Mrs. Ida Rogers Ellis was born on January 30, 1947, in Lee County, South Carolina, to the late Hosea Rogers, Sr. and the late Doshia Bell Rogers. On Sunday, May 24, 2026, God softly called her home to rest.

Ida began her early education at Lower Lee Elementary School in St. Charles, South Carolina, and later graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in Elliott, South Carolina. After graduation, she began her working journey at Reeves Brothers in Bishopville, South Carolina. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and became a faithful member of New Zion AME Church in Bishopville. Later, she continued her spiritual walk at Gethsemane Apostolic Church in Lynchburg, where her faith remained a guiding light in her life.

She was preceded in eternity by those who welcomed her home with open arms: her twin sister, Ada Rogers; her sister, Pearline Scott; her brother, Leo Rogers and her beloved daughter, Kia Ellis. She was also reunited with her uncles, Walter McGill, Sr., Eugene Thomas, and Tommie Thomas; her aunts, Dorothy Fortune, Carrie McGill, Virginia Thomas, and Geraldine Bradley and her brothers in-law Sam Scott, Bennie Belton, Deacon Donald Hodnett and Rev. LeRoy Edwards.

Like a rose garden filled with love, Ida leaves behind many who will forever cherish her memory. Her loving husband, Deacon Lee Ellis of Florence, South Carolina, stands as a testament to their enduring bond. Her children carry forward her legacy: Tracy Rogers and his wife, Alice of Columbia, South Carolina; LeKorey Ellis and his wife, Quinn of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; Kandice Ellis of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Katrina Livingston of Camden, South Carolina.

She is also survived by her brother, Hosea Rogers II and his wife, Debbie of Oviedo, Florida. Her sisters include Annie Belton of Orangeburg, South Carolina, May Caesar of Mayesville, South Carolina, and Thelma Graves and her husband, Steven of Columbia, South Carolina. Her brother in-law, Deacon Samuel Ellis and his wife, Shelia of Walterboro, South Carolina. Her sister in-laws, Dorthea Hodnett of Hampton, Virginia, Rev. Ruthena Edwards of Florence, South Carolina, Dorothy King and her husband, John of Florence, South Carolina, Nell Ellis Gore of Orlando, Florida, and Sylvia Ellis Booker of Orlando, Florida.

Her legacy continues through her beloved aunts, Lucille Brown Young of New York, Gloria Thomas of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Louise Rogers Coleman of Bishopville, South Carolina. She was blessed with thirteen grandchildren, including four she lovingly helped raise: Nathan, Natalyia, Naiyon, and Kiamani Ellis. She also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren, two cherished goddaughters, Stephanie Washington of Pamplico, South Carolina and Glenda Brown Wiggins of Robersonville, North Carolina; two cherished best friends, Gwen Nelson of Columbia, South Carolina and Josephine Carter Wright of Elliott, South Carolina, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Though the rose has been lifted from this earthly garden, its beauty, love, and fragrance remain forever in our hearts.
