The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC carefully considered this recommendation and ask that additional guest please participate via live-streaming if it is authorized by the family.

Graveside service for Mrs. Jacqueline Collins Wingate will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Sunset Memory Gardens, 2615 Alligator Road, Effingham, South Carolina. Interment will follow directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Mrs. Jacqueline Marie Collins Wingate, daughter of the late Reverend Richard Collins and Annie Lee Collins, was born on March 7, 1943 in Florence County. She departed this life on Monday, October 5, 2020, after an extended illness.

“Jackie” as she was affectionately called was educated in the Florence County Public Schools. She devoted her years to being a loving housewife.

At an early age, Jackie was a member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church in Florence, South Carolina.

Jackie was united in holy wedlock to the late Alton Ray Wingate, Sr. and from this union two children were born.

Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Ray Wingate, Sr; a son, Alton Ray Wingate, Jr; her parents, Reverend Richard Collins and Annie Lee Collins; and a brother, John Collins.

Those left to cherish her memories include: a son, Lyndon Bernard Wingate of Florence, South Carolina; two nieces, Miranda Collins Jones of Yemassee, South Carolina and Brandilyn Bell of Columbia, South Carolina; her caretaker, Karen Brooks of Florence, South Carolina; special thanks to the Staff Palmetto Faith Residential Care and McLeod Health of Florence, South Carolina; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and dear friends.

Public viewing will be held 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 South Johns Street, Florence, South Carolina.
