Jerome Cooks

Jerome Cooks, age 58, was born on May 11, 1967, in Florence, South Carolina. He peacefully entered eternal rest on February 3, 2026. 

Jerome was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mary Helen Cooks Peoples, and his father, Leroy Quillen. 

As a member of Wayside Progressive Church of Jesus, he found spiritual grounding, fellowship, and strength. 

A lifelong resident of Florence, South Carolina, Jerome was educated in the public schools of Florence County and proudly graduated from Wilson High School in 1985. 

Following high school, Jerome dedicated his professional life to service and commitment. He was employed by the Pee Dee Regional Center for over 26 years. 

Family was at the center of Jerome’s life. He was a loving brother and a wonderful uncle who led by example. He leaves to cherish his memory three sisters and four brothers, Robert (Deborah) Cooks, Sharon (Edward) DeWitt, Delinda (Earl) Bradley, and Saundra Elaine (Ronald) Ludd, James JuneBug (Betty) Howard, JC Quillen, Dennis Quillen. 

He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. 

Jerome will be remembered as a man who did not seek attention, yet commanded respect through his actions. He was smart, kind, humble, and respectful to everyone he encountered. Though he has transitioned from this life, his example remains—a steady reminder of how to live with grace, dignity, and love.

Family will receive friends at 276 Kinsey Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 from 2 PM - 6 PM. Beginning Monday, February 11, 2026 to Friday, February 13, 2026.
