We gather today as family and friends to honor the life, legacy, and service of Mr. Jerry Johnson, Sr., who was born the oldest child of five to Mr. Herman and Mrs. Martha Marie Greene Johnson on June 6, 1939, in Magnolia, Arkansas.
As a child, Jerry was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Magnolia, Arkansas.
Jerry was a graduate of Columbia High School in Magnolia, Arkansas Class of 1958. He attended Pine Bluff AM College.
Jerry joined the United States Air Force. While stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina he met and married the love of his life (Ms. Frances G. Harrison); who was a student at Morris College. Their earthly union spanned 61 years.
Jerry served his country for over 21 years and retired. The United States Air Force allowed him to visit our world twice. When Jerry retired from the United States Air Force he worked for the United Postal Service and the Florence National Cemetery.
He attended New Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Norman Gamble.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Martha Marie G. Johnson; wife, Frances G. Johnson; a daughter, Stacie Johnson; a son, Jerry Johnson, Jr.; a brother, James Johnson; and a sister, Billye Ann Thomas Johnson.
Mr. Johnson leaves seven grandchildren to cherish his precious memories. Of the seven grandchildren; two were reared in the home; Malcom Lloyd and Cedric Llyod. Other grandchildren include Isaiah Johnson and Victoria (Jesus) Santiago of Grand Prairie, Texas; Shuawana Johnson and Juwanna Johnson of Germany; and Kenny Patterson of Little Elm, Texas. Mr. Johnson also leaves to cherish his memories a daughter-in-law, Cindy Johnson; one brother, Carl (Eva) Johnson of Houston, Texas; a sister, Alice Faye Hill of North Little Rock, Arkansas; a sister-in-law; Hazel Johnson of Hollandale, Mississippi; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the home 5142 Diamond Head Loop, Florence.
