Obituary

Mother Joe Bertha Abraham was born on March 18, 1944 in Cumberland County, NC to the late Joseph McBryde and Louise (Vinnie) Hickson McBryde-McAllister. She was raised by her grandparents the late Dana “Sip” and Lizzie McKenzie Hickson.

On September 22, 2026 she entered into her eternal rest.

Mother Abraham received her education through the Florence County Public School System. She was known for her loving and kind spirit and her willingness to share. She was a dedicated laborer in the vineyard who served God and believed in helping others.

She was employed with Sheraton Inn for six years, and then with Electric Motors until she decided to stay home and care for her family.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Mother Abraham became a faithful member of Zion Temple Holiness Church at an early age. There she was baptized in Jesus' name and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost under the leadership of Pastor Lena Mae Lowery. She sung and was one of the Lead Singers for The Gospel Choir. One of Mother’s favorite songs was “Take Jesus with You Everywhere You Go.” Later she joined the Greater Gethsemane Apostolic Church and served under Bishop Kenneth J. Swaringer.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her late husband, John Abraham, Jr.; two step-sisters, Yvonne Irizarry and Pauline Seawright; seven step-brothers, Al McAllister, Raleigh McAllister, Earl McAllister, Herman McAllister Sr., John McAllister, Sr., Willie McAllister, and Herbert McAllister; and several other adopted siblings that have also gone on to be with the Lord.

Left to cherish her precious memories are her loving children: Neshia (Ira) Caesar, Dr. Sheron Abraham, JoAnn (Entran) Mack, Evangelist Valarie Smith, Lionel Abraham, and one godson, Rosso Bostic; six grandchildren, Hunter Caesar, Desiree Smith, Entran Mack III, Joseph Mack, Trinity Mack, and Hayden Greene; one godsister, Theresa Williams; one sister-in-law, Mary Alice (Frank) Gregg; along with a host of nieces and nephews, special cousins, extended family members and friends who will forever treasure her love and memory.

Please keep the family of Joe Bertha Abraham in your thoughts and prayers.
