Obituary

"May the works I've done speak for me."

On Friday morning, July 24, 2026, our Heavenly Father welcomed His precious flower, Joyce Ann Brockington, into His heavenly garden and called her home.

Joyce Ann Brockington was born on May 7, 1951, in Waverly, Virginia, to the late George Lee Claiborne, Sr. and Ida Louise Claiborne. At an early age, she joined First Baptist Church in Waverly, Virginia. Joyce believed in the goodness and faithfulness of God and remained steadfast in her faith until the very end.

Joyce graduated from Sussex Central High School in Sussex, Virginia, and continued her education at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia.

After college, she relocated to Washington, D.C., where she began a distinguished career in federal service. Throughout her professional life, she served with dedication and excellence in several federal positions, including the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital.

In addition to her federal service, Joyce worked in bookkeeping and tax preparation, becoming known for her knowledge, integrity, and unwavering commitment to helping others. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, she later founded her own tax preparation business. Through her business, she faithfully served countless individuals, families, and small businesses by providing tax preparation and book keeping services. She took great pride in offering dependable guidance and building lasting relationships with her clients, who admired not only her expertise but also her kindness, compassion, and genuine desire to help others succeed.

Joyce and her beloved husband, David Brockington, Jr., began their life together in 1983 and were joyfully united in marriage in 2014. Together they shared more than four decades of love, devotion, friendship, and cherished memories.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, George Lee Claiborne, Sr. and Ida Louise Claiborne; her beloved husband, David Brockington, Jr.; and her two brothers, George Claiborne, Jr. and Harold Claiborne.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her loving daughter, Cassandra (James) Breland of Sumter, South Carolina; her son, Kevin (Teresa) Williams of Richmond, Virginia; her sister, Delores Claiborne of Smithfield, Virginia; her brother, Nathaniel Claiborne of Allentown, Pennsylvania; five beloved grandchildren, Ava, James, Desmond, Lea, and Mariah; two cherished great-grandchildren, Parker and Rylen; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her love and kindness.

Though Joyce's earthly journey has ended, her legacy of faith, service, compassion, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Please keep the family of Joyce Ann Brockington in your thoughts and prayers.
