Mr. Kwelik Jahmir Bacote was born March 17, 2003 in Hartsville, South Carolina. He was the son of Lafrieda Bacote and Jelani Sligh. He departed this earth on Friday, February 12, 2021.

Kwelik was a student at Darlington High School, where he participated in track and field. He was known for his eccentric personality and bright smile. He loved to dance and was often the center of attention.

He was preceded in death by his aunt, Tomisha Bacote.

Those left to cherish his memories are: his mother, Lafrieda Becote of Darlington, South Carolina; his father, Jelani (Tycola) Sligh; a great grandmother, Rebecca Bacote; his maternal grandmother, Teresa Bacote; his paternal grandmother, Gwendolyn Sligh; an honorary grandmother, Magdalene Brown; six siblings, Montrell Bacote, Kryshia Damon, Xavier Hammond, Ke’anah Hammond, Jelani Sligh, Jr., and Jabari Sligh; two uncles, Chris “Black” Bacote and James “JR” Ross; four aunts, Shalette (Randy) Toney, Penny Harriott, Warteisha Harriott, and Lois Smith; four close cousins, Dasha Bacote, Dakari Toney, Ti Keem Gaddy, and Ja’ida Gaddy; his godmother, Antonia Eaddy; nine very special friends, Kenynon Scott, Mikial McCall, Jay Chestnut, Sincere Cottle, Javari Stevenson, Jiquavis Stevenson, Tyler Coleman, Dylan Goodman, Janez Thompson, and Corey McFadden; and a host of family and friends.

Family visitation will be held 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2021 at Mount Olive Word of Life Baptist Church, 812 South 6th Street, Hartsville, South Carolina.

The family will receive friends at 2039 Stony Brook Drive, Hartsville, South Carolina, 29550. Due to COVID-19 MASK are required.

Please keep the family of Kwelik Jahmir Bacote in your thoughts and prayers.

The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC carefully considered this recommendation and ask that additional guest please participate via live-streaming if it is authorized by the family.
