Lenore Levine

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens”

On November 14, 1960, Lenore Levine was born to the late James and Cherry Mae Benjamin in Florence SC. It was not long after her parents migrated to Jersey City, NJ where life begin to blossom for Lenore.

Lenore was educated in the Jersey City public school system. Lenore also acquired many different learning achievements which opened doors to her lifetime career. Lenore instilled educational values and the recipe for a successful life in her siblings, children, grandson, and her nieces and nephews.

Lenore always imparted golden nuggets and wisdom to her family.

Lenore accepted Christ at an early age at the House of God Church and developed a closer walk with God. Salvation ran deep from both sides of her family blood line. She was a fervent prayer warrior and an honorable faith walker. Lenore was an honorary member of Reaching Out Ministries in Jersey City, NJ under the leadership of Bishop Graham and Teresa Speaks. Although she migrated to Florence, she never loss connection with the church prayer line. When Lenore migrated to Florence, her cousin Deaconess Amanda Ramos invited her to fellowship at Glorious Remnant Revival Community where she would fellowship at times.

Lenore’s family principles and ambition for success led her to enter the workforce at an early age, even working summer programs. Lenore worked for Unimark, Maiden-form and Hudson County warming center. Lenore last place of employment was at the Hudson County Corrections where she was an officer and climbed the ladder of success and became an Afro American female Lieutenant at Hudson County Corrections until her retirement. Lenore loved her job, it was like a ministry to her, she believed that all were created equal. Her name will forever be etched in Hudson County Corrections and every place that the sole of her feet treaded upon.

Lenore was a woman of distinction. She loved to dress and look good on the inside and outside. She had an acquired taste for the finer things in life which she worked hard for and deserved. Lenore was the hostess with the mostest. She loved to host gatherings at her home and bring the family together. She would lay out her best china, spread the table with scrumptious food, and love and laughter would fill the atmosphere throughout the house especially when she made her “famous turkey wings.”

Lenore was family oriented. She was a second mother to her siblings. She was not just a lieutenant at the workplace, but she ran a tight ship at home with her two sons, Alik and Tyrek and her daughter Sherry. Lenore believed that all things should be done in decent and in order. You would find her making sure her only grandson Traveon was on track, to spending time with her oldest granddaughter, Adriana to sending love to her youngest granddaughter, Lilly Grace Benjamin and falling in love with her great granddaughter, Tsireya Benjamin.

After retirement, Lenore heart’s desire was to return back to her home, Florence, SC. She believed her Mother’s heart and fondest memories were yet alive there and peace that surpassed all understanding was waiting on her. Lenore brought the home of her dreams and because she was an interior decorator by nature, it did not take her long before she turned her house into a home. She would often be found gardening around her home or sitting at the dining table reminiscing with Aunt Pat. She also enjoyed going to dinner or events with her cousins. Her time after retirement was spent the way she wanted it, enjoying life with no regrets. You would often find Lenore giving life lessons and wisdom to those who would listen. She would make sure that her only grandson

Lenore is preceded in death by her parents, James and Cherry Mae Benjamin; brothers, Larry Johnson and James Benjamin; sisters, Patricia Ann, Shirley Ann, Debra Benjamin and Brenda.

Lenore leaves to honor her legacy her only daughter, Sherry Samone Benjamin; her loving sons, Alik and Tyrek Benjamin; three blessed grandchildren; Traveon Nasir Benjamin, two precious granddaughters, Adriana Shanell Farr and Lilly Grace Benjamin; one great granddaughter, Tsireya Benjamin; two brothers, Jeff (Carla) Benjamin and Edward Benjamin; four sisters, Kathy Benjamin, Melisa (Donald) Williams, Pastor Teresa (Graham) Speaks and Marilyn Hoffman; one special aunt, Edith Abraham and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many coworkers and friends to embrace her legacy.
