A Private Funeral Service for Mr. Louis Edward “Lil’ Louie” Echols will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday, July 31, 2020 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 South Johns Street, Florence, South Carolina. Interment will follow in Florence National Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence
Louis Edward Echols was born on March 30, 1956 in Florence, South Carolina to the late Willie and Mae Etta Echols. He departed this life on Sunday, July 26, 2020.
He attended the Public Schools of Florence County, South Carolina and served in the United States Army, with an honorable discharge in 1975. He was employed with Darlington Veneer for 10 years. Lil’ Louie, as he was affectionately called was full of life and would always make you laugh. He was a generous person and a hard worker. He was willing to help you when he could. He often visited New Zion Baptist Church #2 in Florence, South Carolina, under the leadership of Reverend Harmon Graham. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Gloria Cottingham Echols; his daughter, Etta Mae “Peaches” Echols; two sons, Laduel Gandy and Willie Louis Echols; one grandson, Ekon; four granddaughters, JaDen, Justyce, J’Hevyn, and Edda; five sisters, Joan (John) Cummings of Columbia, South Carolina. Evonne Joseph, Charlene (Charlie) Goodman, Gloria Echols Dixon of Florence, South Carolina and Gail (Julio) Echols, of Bronx, New York; two brothers, Michael Echols of Covington, Georgia and Charles (Kellie) Echols of Darlington, South Carolina, five aunts, Ruth (Al) Henderson and Margie Echols Williams of Chicago, Illinois, Carolyn Echols Shannon and Bessie Mae Echols Burgess of Florence, South Carolina, and Deloris Alexander of Detroit, Michigan; and a host of nieces and nephews and two longtime friends, Charles Wilson and Carlos Anderson of Florence, South Carolina; other relatives; and friends.
