Mrs. Lugenia R. Hendrix was born in Darlington, South Carolina, on March 1, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Ms. Berta Ross and Mr. Enoch London. Lugenia died on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Carolina Pines at 9:03 am. She received her education at Darlington County Public Schools.
Lugenia worked in retail sales at Cato’s and retired from Belks of Darlington, SC. Lugenia was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on March 16, 1968. She was a member of the Darlington Congregation. She loved the ministry, spending many hours each month talking to people about the good news of Jehovah’s Kingdom and what blessing it will bring to mankind. She showed them from the Bible God’s name, Jehovah (Psalm 83:18). She talked about a Paradise Earth where there will be no one saying I am sick, as a result No More Death. (Isaiah 33:24 Revelation 21:3-5) Sister Hendrix also loved her flowers; there was always some type of flower growing somewhere around the house. She was also a great cook of Pound Cakes, Pineapple Coconut Cakes - Macaroni and Cheese, Potato Salad, Stew Beef and Rice, Fried Chicken, and the list goes on and on.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Hendrix Sr, a daughter Bertia Mae Humes; two sisters Hannah Jane McFarland and Anna Bull, a brother Moses Ross, a son-in-law James Larry Scott, a brother, and a sister-in-law, David; and Lois Perkins. Lugenia was married to the late Walter Hendrix Sr. From that union came four children - the late Bertia (Terrance) Mae Humes of Darlington SC, Mary Alice Scott of Hartsville SC, Walter Hendrix Jr. of Florence SC and Thomas (TC) Loretta (Raymond) Bowens of Marion SC. Four grandchildren, Jamion A. Carter, James M. (Alexa) Scott of Mesa, Arizona, Kable S. Brown of New York, and Ciara C. Humes of Darlington, SC. Four great-grandchildren, Jocelyn G. Scott, Sarayah F. Scott, Darion Carter, and Jamion Carter Jr.
Lugenia also leaves behind a sister, Almeta (Willie) Prescott of McBee SC, and a brother James London of Darlington SC - Nephews -James (Bonnet) Perkins of Darlington SC, David Perkins of Rhode Island - a Niece Elma McFarland of Darlington SC and a host of other relatives. Mrs. Lugenia Ross Hendrix will be GREATLY MISSED. We will see her – “Just Around The Corner.”
