Missionary Mary J. Herbert was born in Florence, South Carolina, on November 30, 1942. She was preceded in death by her parents, James andLouise Jordan, and her brother, Matthew Jordan. She received her formal education in the Florence County School System.
On July 28, 1988, Missionary Herbert was united in Holy Matrimony to Deacon Hezekiah Herbert. Together they shared 38 years of love, devotion, and commitment. She was a faithful and dedicated wife who stood beside her husband with strength, grace, and unwavering faith.
Missionary Herbert was baptized in Jesus" Name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost at Saint John Progressive Church in Florence, South Carolina, under the Ieadership of Pastor Rosa L. Cooper then Pastor Gloria Cooper, where she faithfully served as a missionary. She later joined Jireth Pentecostal Holiness Church in Timmonsville, South Carolina, under the leadership of Pastor Claudia Askins. After relocating, she became a devoted member of The Core Church PFT Worldwide Ministry under the Ieadership of Dr. Bishop Joe Jackson, Sr.
Missionary Herbert was employed as a seamstress at Wentworth and La-Z-Boy before later becoming a homemaker. She was known for her strong work ethic, caring spirit, and servant's heart.
Missionary Herbert had a deep love for children and faithfully served as a foster parent for 38 years alongside her missionary calling. She also had a passion for outreach ministry and witnessing to others about the goodness of the Lord. She was known as a powerful prayer warrior and a woman of great faith. Even through illness and difficult seasons, she remained faithful and committed to the work of the Lord.
On Thursday, May 7, 2026, Missionary Herbert answered the Master's call from her home in Florence, South Carolina, and entered into eternal rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Missionary Herbert leaves to cherish her precious and loving memories: herdevoted husband, Deacon Hezekiah Herbert; two daughters, Jenice Lighty of Florence, South Carolina, and Tarry L. Jackson (Joe) of Hopkins, South Carolina; two sons, Ronnie McDonald (Carolyn) of Baltimore, Maryland, and Barry McDonald (Dee) of the Philippines; two foster children, Treshawn Kennedy and Breannca James of Florence, South Carolina; one stepdaughter, Pam Orange of Florence, South Carolina; one sister, Janie Jordan; and one brother, Smith A. Jordan of Boston, Massachusetts.
She also Ieaves to cherish her memory three sisters-in-law, Romana Smith, Katherine Herbert, and Dorothy Crossway; one brother-in-law, David Herbert, all of Florence, South Carolina; her only surviving aunt, Eugenia Swinton of Boston, Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren representing four generations; along with a host of nieces, cousins, relatives, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends beginning Wednesday, May 13, 2026 from 1 PM - 7 PM, 815 W. Sumter Street, Florence.
