Ms. Mary Louise Kirven Matthews passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 8:40 am at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
She was born June 13, 1941 in Florence, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Archie Garnell Kirven, Sr. and the late Iola Backus Kirven.
She attended Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina. After which she relocated to New York City with her husband. Two children were born with this union. She was a loving strong-willed mother who was the backbone of her family.
Mary’s passion for fashion allowed her to work in the finest Boutiques in New York City. She later relocated back to Florence, South Carolina where she was employed with the high fashion designer store named Gladstones.
She is predeceased by her father, Archie Garnell Kirven, Sr.; and her mother, Iola Backus Kirven.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories: a son, Clarence Roosevelt Larry, Jr. (Margaret) Matthews of Florence, South Carolina; a daughter, Ramona Renee’ “Bambi” (Dionte) Matthews-Moses of Florence, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Crystal Shaneka Matthews and Chequita Lolette Lynch both of Florence, South Carolina, Jada Alvander Matthews and Jordan McKenzie Matthews both of Darlington, South Carolina; six great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one brother, Archie Garnell Kirven, Jr of Washington, District of Columbia; two sisters, Remanda Cadema Kirven-George of Brooklyn, New York and Mildred Kirven-Mooney of Columbia, South Carolina; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
