Michael Kelly

Mr. Michael Bernard Kelly was born September 9, 1962, the son of Georgia Mae “Jack” Spears Kelly and the late Leroy “Roy” Kelly. He passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021 in United States Virgin Islands.

“Mike” as he was affectionately attended school in Florence County and was a proud graduate of South Florence High School Class of 1980. He loved clowning around in High School and got put out every other week for his mischief. He later gained Higher Learning Education at North Carolina Agricultural And Technical State University (NCAT) in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Michael received Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He joined Greater Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in the Claussen Community, where he served on the Usher Board. He later joined Salem United Methodist Church also in Claussen Community and continue his commitment to God and the Church by serving as a door keeper on the Usher Board and Pastor Parish Relations Committee (PPRC) Board.

Michael was united in holy matrimony to Gail Kennedy on January 2, 1988. This union was blessed with three children.

Michael was currently coaching a basketball team which he loved to do. He enjoyed sports and working with young boys in all types of sports. He loved his grandchildren and carried them everywhere he went, especially to Grandma Jack’s house every Sunday. Everywhere Michael went he would say something to make you laugh before he left.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Kelly.

Michael leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Gail Kelly; two sons, Justin Kelly and Travis Kelly; one daughter, Jalesa Kelly; four grandchildren, Travis, Jr., Lauren, Zyla’Grace, and Justin, Jr.; his mother, Georgia Mae “Jack” Spears Kelly; two brothers, William (Edna) Kelly and Reginald (Louvenia) Kelly; one sister, Michelle (Riley) James; his mother-in-law, Lillian Kennedy; a sister-in-law, Vontella (Ernie) James; one brother-in-law, Gerald (Natalia) Kennedy; ten aunts, a special aunt, Mary Barcus , whom he loved dearly, Martha Harley, Nancy Harley, Norecer Harley, Emma James, Dorothy Hennix, Barbara Hennix, Neverseen Hines, Ethelene Kennedy, and Missouri Kennedy; seven uncles, Ivory Joe (Diane) Hennix, Eddie Hennix, Ricky (Sheila) Hennix, Major Hennix, Robert Gee, George Gee, and Michael (Idella) Gee; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Please keep the family of Michael Kelly in your thoughts and prayers.
