The sun light shined on Mrs. Mildred James Johnson in Florence, South Carolina on October 14, 1929, for the first time. Mildred was the sixteenth child born to Idella and Mitchell James. She had eighteen brothers and sisters (all of whom predeceased her). Mildred went home to be with the Lord and rejoin her beloved Pinckney and family members on August 3, 2020, after a lengthy illness.

She attended and completed her formal years of schooling in Florence. Mildred was employed as a domestic worker in Florence and later in New York. Many of her fondest memories and the stories she told were of her time spent in New York. Mildred is the mother of six (6) children; Samuel (Deborah), Morgan (deceased), James (deceased), Rosalind (deceased), Pinckney and Rufus. She is the grandmother of fifteen (15) children (some young adults), and they have gifted Mildred twenty six (26) great grandchildren. Most of her life was spent in Manning, South Carolina where she lived with her husband Pinckney Johnson (deceased). At the time of his death they had been married fifty three years. Mildred and Pinckney maintained a home in Manning, South Carolina and that was the location where most of her children were raised and attended school.

Mildred leaves to morn, her three sons, Samuel B. James and his wife, Deborah, Pinckney Earl Johnson, Jr., and Charles Rufus Witherspoon; two granddaughters, Shetina Ransome and her husband, Taamir, and Brandi Solomon, and her husband, Donnell; one grandson, Davell James and his wife, Michelle; her very close and special nephew, William F. Johnson, Jr., and his wife, April; along with a host of other loving relatives such as her two nieces, Rosa Holmes and Ethel Mae Thomas and her nephew, Ewalker James; there are many grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; grandnieces; grandnephews; cousins; and friends too numerous to mention by name but all will miss her equally.
