Phillis M. Myers

Nov 25, 1927 — Jun 7, 2026

Florence

Mrs. Phillis McCants Myers, 98, of Florence, South Carolina, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Born November 25, 1927, in Florence to the late Joseph and Phyllis McCants. Phillis lived a life marked by faith, family, and fierce devotion to her community. A faithful member of Saint Beulah Baptist Church, she served with loyalty and love throughout her life. Phillis was the “Mother” and a “Willing Worker” at Saint Beulah Baptist Church. She was happy to assist in any way that she could.

Phillis was a devoted mother to her two children, Thomasena Meyers and Charlie “Pete” McCants, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her nine siblings: Eliza Jupiter, Susanna Joseph, Carrie Lee, Alma, Buster, Maggie Johnson, Herbert McCants, Charlie McCants, and James McCants. She leaves to cherish her memory four loving grandchildren: Frank Myers, Franklin Myers, Kelethia McCants, and Wilton McCants, along with a host of family and friends who were blessed by her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering kindness.

A pillar of her neighborhood and a lifelong member of “Levy Senor”. Phillis could often be found at Levi Park or sitting on her front porch, cheering at a “Trojans” ball game with a smile and a story. She spoke her mind with clarity and humor—and then made sure you left with a plate of her good home cooking and a glass of her famous sweet tea. A diehard Wilson Tigers fan, she was either at home on the couch or on the sidelines, cheering her team on and offering spirited commentary for coaches and referees.

Phillis lived fully and joyfully. She loved bingo and card games, cooking and shopping, watching football or basketball. Remarkably, she played softball well into her seventies, often catching the ball bare-handed, to the amazement of anyone watching. Known and loved everywhere she went, her compassion, strength, and generous spirit touched countless lives.

Our beloved Mrs. Phillis McCants Myers will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Her legacy of faith, love, and community will continue in the lives of all who knew her. May she rest in the peace she so richly earned.

Please keep the family of Phillis M. Myers in your thoughts and prayers.
