Rosemary Benjamin

Rosemary Benjamin the daughter of the late James (March of Dimes) and Mary D. Jones was born in Florence, South Carolina, May 2, 1934.  She went to her eternal rest on February 8, 2022, in Florence, South Carolina.

She was baptized at Trinity Baptist Church in South Carolina under the pastorate of Rev. A.W. Hill. Rosemary attended the public school of Florence, S.C graduating from Wilson High School in 1952.  Upon her graduation she attended Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina.   After graduating from college with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics, she relocated to Washington, District of Columbia (D.C.)

After two years of courtship Rosemary (Jean) Jones united in holy matrimony to James Benjamin on September 11, 1957 and remained married for 57 years. To this union three children were born.

Rosemary was an active member of her church right from the start.  She was very involved with the music Ministry of New Southern Rock Baptist Church in D.C. and served on the Ever Ready Choir.  She had a special love for children and always strived to do her best to set a Godly example for them.

Rosemary worked as an educator for the Department of Recreation in D.C.  She always believed that a young child’s mind was like a sponge, and that if they are grounded with a strong foundation in the Lord the possibilities are unlimited.  When the foundation is built the sky is the limit with God. She had a special connection with kids and they always seemed to gravitate toward her, no matter where she was.

She was a very peaceful person, and always wanted to make things right. She did not like chaos and always believed that things should be done in decency and in order, no matter what was going on in your life.  Rosemary could always make you smile. She was a happy person and her spirit had a way of positively affecting you.  Everyone she came in contact with fell in love with her that is just the type of person she was.

She had a kind heart and a generous spirit, always willing to help someone in need.  She was loved by all, cherished by many, even though her loving spirit will live on, she will be greatly missed.

Rosemary was preceded of death by her loving and devoted husband: James Benjamin, James Jones Jr., and Franklin Jones.

Rosemary leaves to cherish her   memories her two sons, James Benjamin Jr., of South Carolina, Nathaniel Benjamin of Silver Spring Maryland; and Daughter, WanDerline (Lawrence) Banks of South Carolina; and grandchildren, and great grandson.  She also leaves her Sisters, Joyce Brown, Ettaphine Scott, Jerrylena Swinney, Ruby Belgrove and brother John Jones. Brother in Law, Harold (Bridget) Hodges and cousins, nephews, nieces and a host of relatives and friends.

Please keep the family of Rosemary Benjamin in your thoughts and prayers.
