Sarah Slater
Mrs. Sarah Alice Slater was born on May 2, 1943 in Darlington, South Carolina to the late Donella Alford-Baker and Leroy Baker, Sr. On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, she departed this life surrounded by loving family members and went to be home with the Lord after a brief illness.
Sarah completed her education in the Darlington and Baltimore Public School Systems. While living in Baltimore and lovingly raising her family, she worked full-time. Sarah initially worked in Food Service but spent the majority of her life tirelessly working as a Custodian for the Baltimore City Public School System where she won various awards for her outstanding work ethic.
Upon retiring in the early 2000s, she moved back to Darlington, South Carolina where she lived out the rest of her days. She joined Bethel African Methodist Church in Darlington, South Carolina and was a faithful supportive member until her health declined.
In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Murry Slater, Jr.; her third son, Marty Slater; two grandsons; and by seven of her sixteen siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memories: four sons, Benny Slater of Darlington, South Carolina, Willie (Linda) Slater of Baltimore, Maryland, Anthony Slater of Darlington, South Carolina and Murry Slater of Baltimore, Maryland; one precious, loving, and devoted daughter, Jacqueline (Milton) Hynson of Florence, South Carolina; six granddaughters; four great-granddaughters; four great-grandsons; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.

I thank God for all the memories me, my mom, brother and sister had Cousin Sarah and Cousin Sonny your mom in Baltimore. Those experiences were so instrumental in our growth and appreciation for family. It was also such a blessing to see Cousin Sarah a few years back when we last visited Darlington -- and to talk to her by phone since. God blessed us all through her...and forever will. Rest peacefully. We will always love and appreciate you.
