Stephanie D. Hyman

September 27, 1973 — April 19, 2026

It is with hearts full of love and eyes full of tears that we announce the peaceful passing of our precious Stephanie Dionne Hyman, who was called home to be with the Lord on April 19, 2026, surrounded by the family and friends who adored her.

— Early Life —

Stephanie was born on September 27, 1973, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late Lossie Hyman, Jr. “Jack” and the late Nancy Ann Glory Jean Harrison Hyman. She was raised in the warmth and beauty of Olanta, South Carolina, where her roots ran deep and her spirit grew even deeper. She attended Olanta Elementary School and went on to graduate from Lake City High School. Pursuing her love of science and her desire to make a difference, Stephanie attended Francis Marion University, where she studied biology.

— Her Life’s Work —

Stephanie devoted more than 20 years of her professional life to the customer service field at AT&T, and she loved every moment of it. Her work was a natural extension of who she was-a woman who genuinely loved people. She never met a stranger, always wore a welcoming smile, and had an extraordinary gift for making every person she encountered feel seen, heard, and valued. She was the embodiment of putting others first, and her colleagues and customers were better for having known her.

— Her Strength & Courage —

For many years, Stephanie faced illness with a grace and courage that left all who witnessed it in quiet awe. She fought steadily and with remarkable dignity, never allowing her circumstances to extinguish the light that was so uniquely hers. Through it all, her spirit never dimmed, she kept on laughing, kept on loving, and kept on choosing joy.

A special and heartfelt acknowledgment is given to her devoted uncle, David, whose love for Stephanie was shown not in words, but in miles. He drove her to countless doctor’s appointments - sometimes four in a single day, two to three days a week - and was always the first through the hospital doors whenever she needed him. His dedication was a quiet, steady gift that carried her through some of her hardest days, and his love for her was a blessing beyond measure.

Equal acknowledgment is lovingly given to her dear friend and companion, Adrian Douglas, whose friendship was one of the greatest gifts of Stephanie’s life. Adrian was far more than a friend - she was a caregiver, an encourager, and a motivator who poured herself into Stephanie’s well-being year after year. She made it her mission to ensure Stephanie never felt confined by her illness, taking her out into the world and reminding her that life was still beautiful and still worth savoring. And Stephanie’s favorite of all their adventures together? Their peaceful strolls through the greenways and parks - fresh air, good company, and the simple joy of being alive side by side. Adrian’s steadfast presence was a treasure, and her love for Stephanie leaves a mark that will never fade.

— The Woman She Was —

Stephanie was full of life and full of laughter. She had a magnetic energy that lit up every room she entered, and a heart so generous it knew no bounds. She loved taking vacations and shopping with her dearest companion, and she had an enduring passion for Olive Garden - her absolute favorite restaurant, where she could often be found persuading her sister to join her, sometimes every single weekend, with a twinkle in her eye and an irresistible grin.

Her generosity was legendary. Whether it was making a plate of food for a neighbor in need or quietly buying groceries for someone who was struggling, Stephanie gave without hesitation and without expectation. She never asked for credit - giving was simply who she was.

Christmas was her favorite season, and those who knew her understand why - it gave her every excuse to shower the people she loved with gifts, joy, and celebration. She didn’t just celebrate the holiday; she became it, wrapping everyone around her in the warmth of her love.

— Those She Leaves to Cherish Her Memory —

Stephanie leaves behind a circle of hearts forever changed by her love. She is cherished by her beloved daughter, Madison (Charlotte, NC); her devoted sister and best friend, Melanie Hyman-Collins (Curtis), of Charlotte, NC; and a treasured and devoted circle of family and dear friends whose lives are immeasurably richer for having had her in them.

Rest easy, sweet Stephanie. Go kiss Momma and Daddy for us. Until we meet again.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life... shall be able to separate us from the love of God.” — Romans 8:38–39
