Willie Male Shorter was the first son born to the late Reese Shorter Sr. and the late Cornelia Shorter in Washington, Georgia on March 30, 1941. When he was a toddler his parents relocated to Satsuma, Florida, where he spent his primary years and attended Putnam County schools. Affectionately called “Bruh” by family, Willie grew up the third oldest of sixteen siblings.
As a young man, he also lived in Palatka, Florida and Welaka, Florida and later moved to Orlando, Florida. Willie was a master of many trades and worked in various professions but primarily as a driver and brick mason, however he later resigned from Acme Cleaners in Orlando, Florida.
FAMILY AND RECREATION
Willie gave his life to Christ and was baptized in 1976, and was a member of Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church in Orlando, Florida before relocating to Florence, South Carolina and becoming a member of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church. Willie was extremely family oriented and loved by so many. His world centered around his wife Sherryl, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his one great-great grandson. Along with his wife Sherryl, they helped raised their two nephews and later two grandsons, Kenny Jr. and Corey.
Willie’s friendly, warm, witty, and charismatic nature was evident when he entered the room. He loved sports, fishing, hunting, playing cards and socializing with family and friends with drinks and good food. Willie’s persistent and competitive personality warranted him the title “The Greatest Trash Talker” of all time. He will be truly missed in the flesh but live forever in the spirit.
